How to Configure Blackberry smartphone with your Windows Live Hotmail Account

The BlackBerry Internet Service is a component of the Blackberry Internet solution, which acts a link between the internet and your email account.

 

Blackberry Internet Service email flow (Example #1)

 

a):Bill receives a new email message on his windows live hotmail (bill@hotmail.com) account over the internet.

b):The integrated (Windows Live Hotmail) email account would notify the Blackberry Internet Service of the new email.

c):The Blackberry Internet Service will than retrieve the new email from integrated account and delivers it you’re smartphone.

 

Blackberry Internet Service email flow (Example #2)

 

a):Bill sends an email from his Blackberry device over the internet using the bill@hotmail.com account.    

b):The Blackberry device will send the email to the Blackberry Internet Service over the wireless network.

c):The Blackberry Internet Service sends the email to your friend email account    

 

Now that you have a basic overview of the Blackberry Internet Service and the BIS email flow. We can proceed integrating your existing Windows Live Hotmail Account with Blackberry Internet Service. In order to integrate you’re personal email address with your Blackberry Pearl 8230 smartphone you need to:

 

1):Active you’re Blackberry Pearl 8230 smartphone on Verizon’s wireless network.

2):Create a BIS account by registering the wireless handheld device on (RIM’s) Research In Motion website.

3):Create a (BIS) Blackberry Internet Service account using your Blackberry smartphone.

4):Configure/Add your existing Windows Live Hotmail account with Blackberry Internet Service.

 

Step 1: To active you’re smartphone on Verizon’s Network. 

Please follow the instruction below or go to Verizon’s website at: http://search.vzw.com/?do=viewdoc&id=14080  or complete the OTA (over-the-air) activation from your handheld. 

 

1):To activate the device on the Verizon’s wireless network using your blackberry. Dial *228 (star key and 228) from your smartphone to initialize the call.

2):Press 1 to begin the programming on your smartphone. The system will take approximately two minutes to program (link) your service with your device.

3):Once the programming is complete you will receive a confirmation message and the call will automatically.

 

Step 2: Register the BlackBerry smartphone device over RIM’s (research in motions) wireless network (guide below is created using BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 to 4.7)

 

1):From your PDA go to the Home screen, go to Options | or click Settings.

3):Click Advanced Options

4):Host Routing Table.

5):Then click to view the menu and select Register Now.

 

 

Step 3: Create a (BIS) Blackberry Internet Service account.

 

a):Create BlackBerry Internet Service account from your BlackBerry smartphone.

b):Verify your handheld is connected to a wireless network (you should be able to browse the internet from your smartphone)

c):From your smartphone click on Emil Settings.

d):To agree to the licenses and terms. Click on I Agree option.

 

Step 4: Configure/Add your existing Windows Live Hotmail account with BlackBerry Internet Service.

 

a):Access your BlackBerry Internet Service account (By default you do not need to provide login information.

b):Under Services click on Email Services

c):Select Add Email Account

d):Enter your windows live hotmail account information:

 

Username:               example@hotmail.com

Password:               XXXXXXXXXX

Confirm Password:  Optional
